War of the Worlds!! Yes indeed it’s back on the channel as we mark the 75th anniversary of the original October 3oth, 1938 panic-inducing broadcast. A couple of weeks ago I visited Grover’s Mill, New Jersey, the alleged landing zone for the Martian invaders. There is an awesome little War of the Worlds themed coffee shop there; The Grover’s Mill Coffee House. I sat down with owners Frank and Mickey and have been playing portions of that interview on the channel over the past week or so. They also have some great War of the Worlds events at the coffee house occurring during the week. If you find yourself in the Princeton NJ area, check them out. There is a Grover’s Mill Coffee House Facebook Page as well.

The 75th Anniversary special is two-hours in length consisting of the original broadcast followed by a documentary known as War Of The Welles. They are both courtesy of Southern California Public Radio and hosted by George Takei (Sulu on the original Star Trek).

Also this Halloween week; lots of new to the offerings from various horror series (The Witch’s Tale, The Hermit’s Cave, Inner Sanctum, Lights Out…), plus requested standards including Donovan’s Brain, Orson Welles as Dracula, Three Skeleton Key, Fall of the House of Usher, Pit & The Pendulum, Leinengen Vs The Ants…

We also break from Halloween to mark a few birthdays led by Burt Lancaster’s Centennial. Also honored Dale Evans, Elsa Lanchester, Joan Banks, Fanny Brice and Herb Butterfield.

Gonna be a very busy week.

  1. OOOh thank goodness Halloween is over. I only listened about 4 hours last week.
Thank you for this week. I have given up tv so I can listen more.
I don’t like the scary programs, even as a child I never liked them.
I have family members that just love them, I am the odd one.
