Aug. 24th to Aug. 30th, 2014 RadioClassics Schedules and Highlights

If you haven’t grabbed it yet, the new weekly schedule can be found by clicking to see Full Story & Pictures and then the following link; ShowSchedules

As most of you know during the week of August 10th through the 16th, I was on the second annual Radio Spirits cruise and therefore was unable to note the passing of Lauren Bacall (Died August 12th at age 89) so this week we are presenting a belated tribute for her. The two hours will consist of four in a row co-starring her then husband, Humphrey Bogart, two Bold Venture episodes followed by their appearances on The Jack Benny Program and Command Performance.

The other major special airing this week marks the 75th anniversary of the national theatrical release of “The Wizard Of Oz” (it went national on August 25th, 1939). I am bringing back Lux Radio Theater’s Christmas Day 1950 radio version of the classic motion picture with Judy Garland returning as Dorothy. After Lux’s “Wizard Of Oz” stick around for more of my Spring 2014 interview with Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne.

Birthday tributes for Lurene Tuttle (The Whistler; Sam Spade, Red Skelton Show); Fred MacMurray (Suspense, Bright Star); Raymond Massey (NBC War Bond Parade special); Ingrid Bergman (Screen Guild Player’s “The Bells Of St. Mary’s); Ann Whitfield (Little Phyllis on Harris & Faye Show); Larry Thor (Broadway Is My Beat); Van Johnson (Suspense); Willard Waterman (The Great Gildersleeve, The Whistler); Charles Boyer (Screen Director’s Playhouse, Suspense, Bergen & McCarthy) and a belated birthday for voice of Fred Flintstone, Alan Reed (Life with Luigi, Fred Allen Show, CBS Radio Workshop, Philip Marlowe).

  1. Greg, it was so great to have you back last week! I missed your intro commentary and out commentary and insights into the shows! Welcome back! Radio Classics isn’t the same when you’re gone.
