Headlining this week folks multiple Veteran’s Day Specials scheduled throughout the week.
Before I detail that remember that this week begins with a “fall back” as in turning back your clocks one hour for Daylight Saving Time. You won’t see it on the schedule but there is a special new to the channel commercial free hour long treat airing at 2am ET early Sunday The 5th.
Okay now the Veteran’s Day Specials – a new to the channel Academy Award Theater version on the motion picture “Pride Of The Marines” starring John Garfield; a two-hour Command Performance hosted by Bing Crosby and marking the end of WWII; Lux Radio Theater’s version of the 1943 WWII picture – “Salute To The Marines” (which also celebrates the USMC’s birthday); Fred MacMurray in the Korean War themed Suspense episode – “Flight Of The Bumblebee” and Norman Corwin’s V-J Day production Fourteen August narrated by Orson Welles.
We also has some great birthday tributes led by the 103rd birthday of “the still with us” radio, film and TV actor Norman Lloyd! He’ll be heard in Suspense’s “My Own Murderer”.
We also mark the birthday of producer/director Norman MacDonnell (Gunsmoke, Fort Laramie, Honest Harold, Philip Marlowe); Roy Rogers and Dale Evans; Joel McCrea (Tales Of The Texas Rangers); multiple Oscar nominee Claude Rains (Suspense); Pat O’Brien (Suspense, Cavalcade Of America); June Havoc (Suspense’s “The Black Angel”); Roland Young (Topper); Frank Readick (The Shadow, The Mysterious Traveler); writer Kurt Vonnegut (Dimension X) and producer/director and writer Robert A. Arthur (The Mysterious Traveler, The Sealed Book, The Strange Dr. Weird.)
And we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the debut of the radio series Dr. Christian starring Jean Hersholt.
