Anniversaries and birthdays headline the week as we’ll celebrate the following:
The 76th anniversary of Suspense, The Adventure Of Philip Marlowe’s 71st plus Crime Classics’s 65th.
In the case of Philip Marlowe, I will share with you three different actors playing Raymond Chandler’s private eye; Van Heflin, Gerald Mohr and Bill Conrad.
For the Suspense special you’ll get the earlier audition recording “The Lodger” as well as some top requested episodes including “The Greatest Thief In The World” starring James Mason and “Variations On A Theme” (the missing wife in the trunk story!) starring Parley Baer.
As to the birthday list we will celebrate the previously mentioned Gerald Mohr (Philip Marlowe, The Whistler, Suspense); Bob Bailey (Johnny Dollar, Let George Do It); Ona Munson (Suspense); Basil Rathbone (Sherlock Holmes); Dorothy McGuire (Screen Director’s “Cluny Brown”); Ben Morris (Dark Fantasy, Pat Novak For Hire), Joe Forte (Michael Shayne, Life With Luigi); sci-fi writer Murray Leinster (Dimension X) and Larry Keating (announcer on This Is Your FBI).
And we also have a couple Father’s Day Special to close out the week.
As is an annual tradition; my father, Dan Bell, once again takes over a two-hour blocks full of his favorites. This year he offers up episodes of The Six Shooter, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel and Tales Of The Texas Rangers. Plus additional episodes from Hawk Larabee and Frontier Gentleman. Hmm, notice a theme here?
We also have Father’s Day comedies from Jack Benny, Red Skelton, The Life of Riley and Father Knows Best.
