Headlining this week is a double special marking a birthday as well as a new motion picture release.

As the fourth big screen version of “A Star Is Born” is hitting theaters starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, RadioClassics is offering up a Lux Radio Theatre version of the 1937 original. It also functions as a birthday tribute for the leading lady Janet Gaynor. For the radio production, her “A Star Is Born” leading Frederic March is replaced by Robert Montgomery.

A couple other motion picture actresses have birthdays this week: Carole Lombard (Lux Radio’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-starring Bob Hope) and June Allyson (Screen Director’s Playhouse version of “Music For Millions” plus guest on The Charlie McCarthy Show).

We’ll present a two-hour block of The Abbott and Costello Show to celebrate the birthday of straight man, Bud Abbott.

We also celebrate the birthdays of Groucho Marx (You Bet Your Life); Damon Runyon; Barton Yarborough (Dragnet, Hawk Larabee); Everett Sloane (Inner Sanctum Mysteries) plus announcers – Tony Marvin (Casey, Crime Photographer); Fred Collins (Dimension X, X-Minus One, The Chase, The Falcon) and Don Rickles (not THAT Don Rickles but rather the announcer for The Whisperer, Night Beat, etc).

This week we celebrate the following series anniversaries: Dennis Day Show (72nd); Barrie Craig, Confidential Investigator (67th); and Rocky Fortune (65th).
