This week we mark the 84th anniversary of the national radio debut of Fibber McGee & Molly (April 16th, 1935) with episodes from early in the series two-decade long run. And we have a second block featuring that series (and more) as we mark the birthday of lead actress Marian Jordan.
We also celebrate the 84th anniversary of the national debut of Lights Out (added to the NBC nationwide network on April 17th, 1935) and the 76th anniversary of the CBS series Romance (with the episode Affair At Aden starring Bob Bailey and Jeanne Bates).
In addition to Molly actress Marian Jordan, here are some of the other birthdays we are marking this week: motion picture leading man William Holden (Suspense, Bob Hope Show); movie actress Joan Lorring (Suspense, Inner Sanctum Mysteries); Les Tremayne (The Thin Man, The Whistler, Inner Sanctum Mysteries); Joan Alexander (Lois Lane on Superman, Ellen Deering on Philo Vance); Al Hodge (The Green Hornet); Hans Conried (The Life Of Riley, My Friend Irma, Suspense, CBS Radio Workshop); Betty Lou Gerson (The Whistler, Mystery Is My Hobby); Bob Hastings (Archie Andrews, X-Minus One); Arthur Lake (Dagwood in Blondie) and Ted Osborne (The Columbia Workshop, The Mysterious Traveler.)
And finally, as this week ends on Easter Sunday, we once again offer up comedy blocks with Easter episodes from Phil Harris & Alice Faye, Our Miss Brooks, The Life Of Riley, Life with Luigi, The Great Gildersleeve and Baby Snooks. And also two Easter religious episodes The CBS Radio Workshop‘s “The Son Of Man” as well as The Family Theater broadcast, “The Passion and The Death”.
