A busy week for series debut anniversaries as we celebrate Ellery Queen’s 80th (two episodes, one starring Sydney Smith and the other with Lawrence Dobkin); Boston Blackie’s 75th (with Chester Morris as well as Richard Kollmar); and Philip Marlowe’s 72nd (Three episodes starring Van Heflin, then William Conrad and finally Gerald Mohr).
We also mark Suspense‘s 77th – it contains the earlier audition recording “The Lodger” as well as some top requested episodes including “The Devil In The Summer House” by John Dickson Carr and “Variations On A Theme” (the missing wife in the trunk story!) starring Parley Baer.
Heading up our birthday specials will be two for Mary Livingstone, not only appearing on her husband, Jack Benny’s long running series, but we also bring back Mary and Jack in Lux Radio Theatre’s comedy broadcast “Seven Keys To Baldpate”.
Other birthday celebrations; Clayton “Bud” Collyer (Adventures of Superman); Errol Flynn (Lux Radio Theatre’s “British Agent”); cartoon voice legend Paul Frees (Escape, The Whistler, The Green Lama, The Black Book); Ben Morris (Dark Fantasy, Pat Novak For Hire); Martin Gabel (Norman Corwin’s United Nations Radio “Could Be”, Molle Mystery Theatre); Norman Rose (narrator on Dimension X, X Minus One); Carleton Hobbs (Sherlock Holmes); and playwright Lillian Hellman (The Little Foxes).
