Heading up this week’s birthday blocks some Love For Lauren as well as a bit of Love for Lawrence!

We celebrate motion picture leading lady, Lauren Bacall with her work alongside first husband, Humphrey Bogart in both their early 1950s radio series, Bold Venture as well as Lux Radio Theatre’s adaptation of her big screen debut in Howard Hawk’s “To Have and Have Not”.

As to that Love For Lawrence, it refers to a centennial celebration for Larry Dobkin. They prolific radio, film and television actor (as well as writer/ director) will star in an hour of The Whistler followed by an hour of Suspense.

Additional birthday tributes for Eddie “Rochester” Anderson (The Jack Benny Program); Dolores Costello (Drew Barrymore’s grandmother!); Paul Muni (Academy Award Theatre, Suspense);  Cartoon Voice Legend June Foray (Stan Freberg Show, Suspense, CBS Radio Workshop); Alfred Shirley (Dr. Watson on Mutual Radio’s Sherlock Holmes); Jack Mather (The Cisco Kid); Martha Scott (Suspense, The Great Gildersleeve); Alice Yourman (Archie Andrews); John Houseman (The Mercury Theater On The Air); Hanley Stafford (Baby Snooks & Daddy, Suspense) and H.G. Wells (three of his stories adapted for Escape plus his one and only recorded visit with Orson Welles).

We also mark the 66th anniversary of the debut of The Six Shooter with Jimmy Stewart and the 71st anniversary of comedy program, Life With Luigi.

Also it’s never too early to book a cabin for our next Radio Spirits Cruise. My 8th Annual Sailing-With-The-Fans Sea Cruise departs from Galveston, TX on June 28th, 2020 for a seven day Western Caribbean excursion with stops in Jamaica, The Cayman Islands and Cozumel.
