Topping the birthday celebrations is our annual two-hour special for famed thriller director Alfred Hitchcock. We have three of his motion pictures as adapted for radio: Lux Radio Theatre’s version of “Strangers On A Train”, Mystery In The Air’s “The Lodger” (with Peter Lorre, Agnes Moorehead and Harry Morgan) and The Screen Guild Players take on “Rebecca”, Hitch’s only best picture Oscar winner.
We have a Siodmak Siblings Celebration which marks the birthdays of brothers Robert and Curt Siodmak. It begins with a half-hour version of the Robert Siodmak (born August 8th, 1900) directed motion picture thriller, “The Spiral Staircase” as presented on The Screen Director’s Playhouse. Then it’s an hour long version 1948 Suspense and “Donovan’s Brain” based on a novel by younger brother Curt Siodmak (born August 10th, 1902) and starring John McIntire, Wally Maher, Jeannette Nolan and hosted by Robert Montgomery.
We also celebrate movie star John Beal (Suspense’s “Deadline At Dawn”); Gloria Blondell (The Saint, Philip Marlowe & The Screen Director’s Playhouse version of “Yellow Sky”); Ethel Barrymore (Cavalcade Of America); Lloyd Nolan (Suspense); Gene Raymond (Stars Over Hollywood); Eddie Green (Duffy’s Tavern), film director and Lux Radio host Cecil B. DeMille; Jeff Corey (Escape’s “Mars Is Heaven” plus as Lt. Ybarra on The Adventures Of Philip Marlowe); announcer Ed Herlihy (The Falcon) and bandleader Skinnay Ennis (Bob Hope Show).
