First of all this is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, so we have a two-hour block featuring four trucker themed stories courtesy of Escape “The Thirteenth Truck”, The Whistler “Lonely Highway”, Let George Do It “No Riders” and Suspense “Ride Down Cajon”.
Heading up our birthday tributes this week channel friend actress Peggy Webber as she turns 95. Still quite busy with her modern radio troupe, The California Artist Radio Theater, we celebrate her this year with an appearance as Ma Friday on Dragnet plus her work in a couple episodes of The Whistler.
Additional birthday specials for Lauren Bacall co-starring with husband Humphrey Bogart in Bold Venture as well as Lux Radio Theatre’s adaptation of “To Have and Have Not”. Other movie stars birthdays being celebrated include Penny Singleton (Blondie); Tom Conway (Sherlock Holmes, The Saint); Jackie Cooper (Suspense, Lux Radio’s Lives Of A Bengal Lancer); and Dolores Costello (Drew Barrymore’s grandmother!)
Also author Agatha Christie (with Campbell Playhouse’s version of The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd, Radio City Playhouse’s Witness For The Prosecution); Lawrence Dobkin (The Whistler, Suspense); Eddie “Rochester” Anderson (The Jack Benny Program); Jerry Colonna (Bob Hope Show); Cartoon Voice Legend June Foray (Stan Freberg Show, Suspense, CBS Radio Workshop) Alice Yourman (Archie Andrews); Elvia Allman (Tootsie on Burns & Allen); and musician Korla Pandit (Chandu The Magician).
We also mark the 67th anniversary of the debut of The Six Shooter with Jimmy Stewart.
