Oscar Week: Better late then never, this year’s Academy Award Ceremony (the 93rd) is Sunday evening April 25th, so as is our usual practice here on the channel we celebrate past winners and nominees.

Beginning Tuesday April 20th, the next five evenings at 8pm ET (7 CT, 6 MT, 5 PT) we’ll present radio adaptations of a Best Picture Oscar Winner (plus one Best Picture nominee). You’ll hear radio versions of All About Eve, Rebecca, Going My Way, and even Casablanca (well actually Jack Benny’s parody of it). On Saturday evening we’ll present a new to the channel this week episode of multiple Oscar nominee, The Maltese Falcon as presented on Lux Radio Theatre. In place of original leads Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor and Sydney Greenstreet will be Edward G. Robinson, Gail Patrick and Laird Cregar.

We mark radio debut anniversaries for Your Hit Parade (86th); Romance (78th); Richard Diamond, Private Detective (72nd) and X-Minus One (66th).

Heading up the birthday celebrants is former child superstar Shirley Temple as we bring back her performance in Lux Radio Theatre’s “Captain January” plus a visit to The Bob Hope Show.

We also mark the birthdays of Betty Lou Gerson (Escape, The Whistler, Mystery Is My Hobby); Ted Osborne (Columbia Workshop, The Mysterious Traveler); Simone Simon (Inner Sanctum); Charlotte Lawrence (Suspense) and writer George Harmon Coxe (Casey, Crime Photographer).
