A busy week for series debut anniversaries as we celebrate Ellery Queen’s 82nd (two episodes, one starring Sydney Smith and the other with Lawrence Dobkin); Philip Marlowe’s 74th (Three episodes starring Van Heflin, then William Conrad and finally Gerald Mohr); Murder By Expert’s 72nd and Crime Classics’s 68th.
We also mark Suspense‘s 79th – it contains the earlier audition recording “The Lodger” as well as some top requested episodes including “The Devil In The Summer House” by John Dickson Carr and “Variations On A Theme” (the missing wife in the trunk story!) starring Parley Baer.
Birthday celebrations: Clayton “Bud” Collyer (Adventures of Superman); Errol Flynn (Lux Radio Theatre’s “British Agent”); Dorothy McGuire (Screen Director’s “Cluny Brown”, Suspense); Ben Morris (Dark Fantasy, Pat Novak For Hire); Martin Gabel (Norman Corwin’s United Nations Radio “Could Be”, Molle Mystery Theatre); Joe Forte (Michael Shayne, Life With Luigi); Ona Munson (Suspense, Big Town); Carleton Hobbs (Sherlock Holmes); playwright Lillian Hellman (The Little Foxes) and sci-fi writer Murray Leinster (Dimension X, X-Minus One).
And we also have a couple Father’s Day Special to close out the week.
As is an annual tradition; my father, Dan Bell, once again takes over a two-hour block full of his favorites. This year he offers up episodes of The Six Shooter, Gunsmoke, Have Gun Will Travel and Tales Of The Texas Rangers.
We also have Father’s Day comedies from Jack Benny, Red Skelton, The Life of Riley and Father Knows Best.
