Lots of significant series anniversaries and birthdays this week. But first, I want to remind all of you that this year’s Christmas In July Week (The 19th Annual!) will air Monday July 19th – Sunday July 25th.
We have birthday blocks for some Hollywood top movie stars: Barbara Stanwyck (Screen Director’s Playhouse File On Thelma Jordan); James Cagney (including Lux Radio Theatre’s “Angels With Dirty Faces” and Suspense’s “Love’s Lovely Counterfeit”); Ginger Rogers (Lux’s “Stage Door plus Suspense); Sonny Tufts (Suspense, Duffy’s Tavern); Richard Dix (Suspense); and Natalie Wood (Two from The Family Theatre).
Plus birthday specials for Milton Berle; Red Skelton; Art Linkletter; Harriet Hilliard (Ozzie & Harriet, Suspense); Narrator William Woodson (This Is Your FBI): prize winning author Ernest Hemmingway (Lux’s “For Whom The Bell Tolls”); radio and television actress Eve McVeagh (Crime Classics); famed producer Himan Brown (Inner Sanctum Mysteries, Bulldog Drummond); and series creator Philips H. Lord (Gangbusters).
We also celebrate the following series anniversaries – Gangbusters‘ 86th, featuring four episodes of that true crime series created by Philip H. Lord. Three offerings from The Columbia Workshop to mark that program’s 85th. Also three from Adventures Of Sam Spade which debuted 75 years ago. And we also have Eve Arden in a couple from Our Miss Brooks, a popular comedy program which debuted 73 years ago plus The Stan Freberg Show’s 63rd.
I also bring back some of last year’s sci-fi special which celebrated the 50th Anniversary Of Moon Landing Apollo 11 touchdown down on the lunar surface on July 20th, 1969. RadioClassics pays tribute with three moon related science fiction stories from Dimension X and X-Minus One.
