Well gang, we are wrapping up another month and rolling into another. One season has ended and another begun. Before you know it we will be into Halloween Week (Oct 24th – 31st) quite possibly the most popular themed week on the RadioClassics channel. For now though, here are the highlights for this week.
The great William Conrad earns two different two-hour birthday blocks. Logically they feature Gunsmoke episodes but also ones from Escape, Suspense, and narrating a couple episodes of The CBS Radio Workshop.
We bring back the End Of The Golden Age Of Radio special as we’ll play the final Suspense and Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar episodes which played on the evening of September 30th, 1962.
We’ll present a two-hour block of The Abbott and Costello Show to celebrate the birthday of straight man, Bud Abbott.
We also celebrate the birthdays of Groucho Marx (You Bet Your Life); Greer Garson (Academy Award Theatre); Edmund Gwenn (Suspense); George Raft (Rocky Jordan); Barton Yarborough (Dragnet, Escape); Everett Sloane (Inner Sanctum Mysteries); Deborah Kerr (Suspense’s “Lady Pamela”); Lamont Johnson (Tarzan, Crime Classics, The Whistler); Barbara Britton (Mr. & Mrs. North); vocalist Kenny Baker (The Jack Benny Program, Fred Allen Show); Virginia Bruce (Suspense); Doris Singleton (The Whistler); Ted de Corsia (Pursuit, Escape, The Whistler); and Ed Sullivan (Guest on The Jack Benny Program);
This week we celebrate the series debut anniversary of The Phil Harris & Alice Faye Show (76th).
