Hey folks! We are marking the 69th anniversary of the debut of the quality western radio series, The Six Shooter with an hour of episodes starring James Stewart as Britt Ponset. It is followed by Jimmy as the special guest on both The Jack Benny Program and The Bob Hope Show.
First of all this is National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, so we have a two-hour block featuring four trucker themed stories courtesy of Escape “The Thirteenth Truck”, The Whistler “Lonely Highway”, Let George Do It “No Riders” and Suspense “Ride Down Cajon”.
We have our annual Labor Day Special featuring An American Gallery’s biography of famed labor leader Samuel Gompers as portrayed by Lawrence Dobkin. And this year it will be followed by a Life Of Riley episode starring William Bendix as lovable laborer, blue collar aircraft factory worker Chester A. Riley.
We are celebrating the following series debut anniversaries:
The Great Gildersleeve (81st) and Defense Attorney (71st).
Heading up our birthday tributes will be two different specials for movie star Alan Ladd (Box 13 plus radio adaptations of his following films “Shane”, “The Glass Key” and “Saigon”.
Plenty of birthday specials this week, but first let’s talk about a series debut anniversary.
Father Know Best first came to radio 73 years ago on August 25th, 1949 (moved to television on October 3rd, 1954). We celebrate it’s anniversary with an hour of episodes which also functions as a birthday tribute for actress June Whitley (Aug 26th, 1921 – May 5th, 2006).
